This 1965 Jaguar S-Type was purchased by the seller in September 2024 from the estate of its former owner, who is said to have kept the car since the 1960s. Powered by a 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six, the car is finished in silver over red leather and features burl wood interior trim, a Motorola AM radio, dual SU carburetors, disc brakes, 15″ steel wheels, and hubcaps. The vehicle reportedly spent years in indoor storage before being purchased by the seller, and subsequent recommissioning work involved cleaning the carburetors and fuel tanks, fitting a custom-fabricated exhaust system, and replacing the tires, ball joints, water pump, coolant hoses, brake booster, steering-column bushings, neutral safety switch, and door weatherstripping. This S-Type is now offered at no reserve with a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in silver, and exterior details include a Leaper hood ornament, Lucas driving lights, a driver-side mirror, dual exhaust outlets, and wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders. Photos showing paint chips, dings, and scapes can be viewed in the gallery below. The seller reports evidence of paintwork to the side, front, and rear bodywork under previous ownership.
Silver-painted 15” steel wheels wearing polished Jaguar-branded hubcaps and trim rings were mounted with 215/70 Armstrong Blu-Trac PC tires with 2024 production codes under current ownership. The car features four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units. Additional work performed under current ownership included rebuilding the brake master cylinder and replacing the brake booster, upper and lower ball joints, and tie-rod-end boots.
The individual front seats and the rear bench are upholstered in red leather that extends to the center console and door panels. Burl wood veneers adorn the dashboard as well as the door caps and window surrounds. Interior appointments include a push-button Motorola AM radio, a heater, front lap belts, and door pockets. The door weatherstripping, the steering-column bushings, and the neutral safety switch were replaced under current ownership. The seller notes that the seat foam is deteriorated, the dashboard finish is imperfect, and the brake pedal feels elevated in the driver’s footwell.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome semi-circular horn ring is paired with a column-mounted shifter. Instrumentation consists of a Smiths 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level as well as a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, approximately 25 of which have been added by the seller. The clock is not functional and the speedometer needle jumps while driving, the seller notes.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is fed by twin SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new. Recommissioning work in 2025 included cleaning the carburetors, fuel pumps, and fuel tanks; replacing the points, water pump, coolant hoses, spark plugs, and battery; changing the oil; and fitting a custom-fabricated exhaust system from the front resonator back.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission.
