The car is for sale here cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
This NO RESERVE auction is for a fine looking 1960 JAGUAR Mark IX 4 door luxury saloon. This is a true survivor and it is the hands of it's second owner. The original owner was in possession of the car from new until 2007 (see registration sticker on windshield). During that time and since the car has been in clean dry storage and the mileage shown on the odometer is accurate. It is finished in a solid black exterior paint over a rich red Connolley leather interior. The PAINT on the car DOES LOOK BETTER IN THE PICTURES than it does in person, but that said, it is very respectable for an original. We had to keep reminding ourselves that the car we were looking at and driving around in was actually over 50 years old!
This beautiful classic sedan has had a pampered life and it is showing just over 108,000 miles on the odometer. It not only looks fantastic but it produces plenty of usable horsepower. It is powered by the proven 3.8 liter twin-cam six cylinder engine under the hood (bonnet), and it produces 220 horsepower. It moves the power through a Borg-Warner automatic transmission. For an original car this is as clean as they come and it has a nearly flawless leather interior. It has bucket seats which were a rare option and they look and feel great. The entire interior is rich and plush and touches like the rear fold down picnic tables add an air of elegance. The original owner's manual and keys will be given to the winning bidder of this auction. All of the locks work including those on the gas fill doors. The original under-dash slide out tray (shown) was replaced with a radio years ago, but it can easily be put back in it's proper place.
This handsome looking Jaguar has always been adult owned, driven and cared for. We have multiple vintage images of the car shown at the end of the listing. It was used only during summer's at the country home on Long Island, New York. The original paint job has had some touch ups along the way but the finish in the majority is original. With the exception of some minor chips, dings and scratches, it is a solid 20 footer. The right front fender has a blemish on the corner and there is a small patch of surface rust at the leading edge of the right rear fender where it meets the rocker. It is a pleasure for us to present a machine that is well put together and cared for and it still looks and drives just fine.
With the exception of the dash and the picnic tables, all of the interior burl walnut woodwork has been refinished. Other than one very small tear in the rear seat bottom (repairable) the original leather interior is intact and supple. This car starts right up and doesn't even need to be warmed up before you can take off and drive away. It has a glass smooth idle and even power. There were no gremlins like smoke, noises or leaks noticed. The brake pedal was soft but we are hoping to be able to correct that by bleeding them, since the brakes were recently done. These Mark IX's are well behaved on the road and will cruise comfortably at current day highway speeds without even breathing hard. Notice in one of the images that at a warm idle the engine was holding over 40 pounds of oil pressure.
In all regards this JAGUAR MK IX didn't disappoint us. It is a really nice machine. Most of the bright work is fair to good and could be improved with a professional polishing and cleaning. There is some pitting in areas. The bumper guards are dented showing they have done their job a few times. As our photos of the undercarriage will show, underneath the car is rock solid including the outriggers and jacking posts. The car also has a stainless steel exhaust system that is nice and quiet. Recent improvements include the replacement of the headliner with period correct fabric, rear window gasket rubber, completely new brakes on all four wheels and a new trunk interior.
As with all of our eBay Motors listings we try to let our high resolution photographs tell the story about the vehicles that we are selling. We have shots from every possible angle in slightly different lighting conditions. If you study our clear multiple images very carefully, you will see exactly what this stellar looking JAGUAR sedan is all about. With the low mileage and rust free body we feel that this car deserves serious consideration for a variety of enthusiasts and collectors of fine vintage automobiles.
The clear images of this vehicle, shown below, will do a much better job of describing the look, style, condition and value of this vintage Jaguar MKIX than our words ever could. We invite questions and comments and there is NO RESERVE on this auction!
