Sellers description:
This is my 1960 Jaguar Mark IX saloon. There were only about 4000 of these cars made in LHD (left hand drive) and an unknown number still remain. This is a full-size luxury car Jaguar built to compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
This is complete, running/driving car that is solid and in presentable condition. This could be an excellent candidate for a full restoration or you can drive it and enjoy it the way it is. This car has an "old car" patina which cannot be replicated- seeing this car on the road makes nearly everyone smile. This car is fun to drive- most people haven't seen an ancient British car this size and it attracts attention.
The body is generally straight and clean and looks very decent. The body is in good shape for the age and while it isn't rust-free it is very solid for the age. It is old paint which is still intact. The trunk is solid throughout and so is the frame, underside and floors. The body is in surprisingly solid condition mostly due to the fact that is has been stored indoors.
All the glass is intact and the windows go up and down properly.
This Jaguar starts and runs well. The engine is powerful and runs well. The transmission shifts through all the gears. This is a running & driving car that starts, runs, steers, stops, etc.
The drivetrain is a GM 5.7L V8 engine with a THM350 transmission. (I know, I know- Jaguar purists are horrified). This makes for a reliable, powerful engine that is easily serviced. Parts are readily available and cheap. This is a bulletproof engine/transmission combination. This engine swap was done professionally and done well. The core support is new, along with the power steering rack and many other new parts involved in the swap. This is a freshly rebuilt engine with all new bolt-on accessories and parts plus aluminum pulleys, an Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley carburetor. This is a clean swap and nice setup.
This is an old car- not a restored car and not one you're likely to drive cross-country. This car will be a project for someone if they want it to be perfect, since is certainly isn't perfect right now. There is some body rust, particularly toward the bottoms of the doors and at the bottoms of the rocker panels. I have replacement rocker panels that go with the car. The power steering pump leaks so the power steering isn't working well- it is basically manual steering. It is still plenty driveable and manageable the way it is but you won't be parallel parking much- you should be moving to turn the steering wheel easily. This car is geared low- it isn't geared to be much of a long-distance highway car- it is geared more for around-town driving. This is an old car, and of course it is sold as-is with no warranty. This is not a car you will load the kids into and take them to school every day, unless you and your kids are really cool... Other than if you live locally, I recommend having the car trailered or shipped for practicality's sake. The odometer reads 38,586 miles; this will be noted as non-actual mileage on the title.
