Sellers description:
Original 1966 Jaguar 3.8 S European Spec right hand drive 4 door sedan. I am listing this vehicle for a friend who bought this Jaguar with the intention of restoring it, did some mechanical work, but now has other interests preventing him from completing the job. As a weekend driver that you can enjoy and improve with time... this Jaguar needs almost nothing. To be a show quality Jaguar this car needs much attention. This Jaguar photographs very well... keep in mind that this is not a show car.
OVERALL CONDITION:
This vintage Jag, starts right up, runs, drives, and stops just fine. All of the electrics are in working order (Amazing for vintage Lucas Electrics) with the exception of one side fuel tank sending unit. The cross over switch works fine and the engine draws fuel from both tanks, just one sending unit is not functioning. Body has one respray of original type color which is serviceable and has a decent shine but also has many small imperfections. The red leather interior is complete and in tact but shows wear. Exhaust is new, so are the tires, rubber brake lines and ball joints. If I have your interest... read on...
BODY CONDITION:
The body on this vintage Jag is in nice condition and all body lines and seams are straight and even. The Pewter Metallic paint job shines and looks good from 5 feet but is filled with minor imperfections, rock chips, scratches and a couple off stains. There is only one noticeable rust bubble behind the left front wheel opening which is about an inch in diameter. All the chrome and stainless bright work on this car is in tact and properly mounted to the vehicle... once again there are scratches, dings and some pitting in the chrome. All the glass is in nice condition. Three of the four headlights are Lucas and the tail light lenses are original.
INTERIOR CONDITION:
The up scale Jaguar interior is original and in tact. The original read leather interior shows wear on the driver seat area and at the rear glass area some stitching is coming unraveled. The headliner is original and intact. The wood trim is complete and the wood dash is in very nice condition. Other wood trim finishes on and around door openings are in need of refinishing due to contact with moisture over the years. The fuzzy door trim needs to be replaced as does all of the door weatherstripping which has become brittle.
CHASSIS & DRIVELINE:
The big 3.8 liter Jag Six starts right up and runs smoothly. It does emit a puff of oil smoke at start up only indicating that valve seals may be worn. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the car brakes as it should. The tires are new B.F. Goodrich Touring TA radials, the brake hoses have recently been replaced as have the ball joints. The entire exhaust system is brand new and sounds great on this car. Front rotors are thin and will need to be replaced.
ENGINE BAY & TRUNK:
The engine bay looks stock and in good working order. The big Jag six runs effortlessly. The brake fluid canister cap is broken and returns and occasional false Low Fluid warning. The engine dips a bit of oil when sitting, no surprise. The trunk area is in very nice, original, rust free condition, with original tool kit. Spare steel wheel with no tire. Hood and trunk seals are in similar condition to the door seals and need replacement.
SUMMARY:
This is a very nice 48 year old Jaguar Sedan that has not been ignored but maintained throughout its life. It has not been pampered but driven and that shows. It is a great candidate for restoration because everything is here. We are happy to sell internationally.
