This 1965 Jaguar S-Type is a four-door sedan that was sold new by Jaguar of New York and was acquired by the seller in January 2015. The car is finished in Old English White over black leather upholstery, and power is supplied by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include dual SU carburetors, independent rear suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This S-Type is offered with owner’s and service manuals, a tool kit, a copy of the original sales invoice, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Old English White and features chrome wraparound bumpers with overriders, a driver’s side mirror, dual exhaust outlets, and hinged rear windows. The seller states that the passenger side of the car was refinished and the side-mirror mounting hole was patched following an accident in 2015. The antenna is broken, and pealing paint is visible on the fuel-filler door.

Polished 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with 205/70 Sailun Atrezzo Touring LS tires. Factory equipment includes an independent rear suspension and four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. A full-size spare is housed in the trunk, and a knock-off hammer is included in the sale.

The cabin features seats trimmed in black leather with pleated inserts, which are complimented by matching door panels and carpets. Woodgrain trim is found throughout the cabin, and additional amenities include a locking glovebox, a heater, lap belts, dome lights, front vent windows, and toggle switches for vehicle functions. The AM/FM radio and windshield washer system are disconnected.

A two-spoke steering wheel fronts a woodgrain dashboard housing Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with a nonfunctional inset analog clock. Auxiliary gauges are center-mounted and include meters for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown. The seller notes a misaligned steering wheel and vertical play in the steering column.

The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is fed via dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. A power steering leak is noted, and recent service is said to have included replacement of the spark plugs and ignition cables.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed BorgWarner automatic transmission. The seller notes a transmission leak, and corrosion is visible on underside surfaces. Additional underbody photos can be viewed in the gallery.

A copy of the original sales invoice from Jaguar of New York lists optional equipment and a total price of $6,371.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
