from Jag-lovers.org:

As reported in The Newsletter of the International Jaguar 'S'-type
Register, a member’s ‘S’-type has sold for what the Editors believe
to be a record price. On May 3, 2008, not the height of the
market, the hammer fell at US$47,500 (US$52,250 with the buyers
premium of 10%). Worldwide Group Auctioneers had estimated the car
at US$48,000 to 62,000!

The car was built February 22, 1966 and had a complete ground up
restoration in Texas in the late 1990s. It was campaigned
extensively on the Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) concours
circuit and won five National Championships in Class 9. Along the
way, P1B79407DN scored 14 perfect scores
Interestingly, the car is ‘New Red’ and JDHT added a note
to the heritage certificate stating: “This is the first instance we
have encountered of a color called ‘New Red’. When undergoing
restoration, DuPont Automotive Products used ‘DuPont Chromavision
Color Matching Technology’ to verify that the color was an OEM
color and to match it exactly for the project.

Can anyone provide more information on his New Red color or DuPont mixing code? All leads appreciated!

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
